DICKIES MAKES NEW ADDITIONS TO HIGH AND ENHANCED VISIBILITY WORKWEAR LINE

Leading workwear brand places high priority on high visibility

FORT WORTH, Texas (October 31, 2007) – Dickies, the leading global workwear brand, announces the addition of new high visibility and enhanced visibility garments for spring 2008. The new apparel addresses the industry demand for garments that are more adaptable to changing work conditions.

Dickies launched its high and enhanced visibility line last fall -- the most comprehensive line of visibility workwear available that also met the standards of the American National Standard for High-Visibility Safety Apparel (ANSI) 107 – 2004. Many of the existing and new garments feature 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material, which is recognized as the leading high performance retro-flective material to enhance visibility in low-light and nighttime conditions.

“As the leading workwear company, it is our mission to understand the needs of workers in high volume traffic settings and to create garments that are going to help them be comfortable and successful in a variety of conditions,” said Jon Ragsdale, vice president of marketing and business development for Dickies. “Additions like our long sleeve pocket tee and short sleeve work shirt provide workers with layering options for climate changes, which are always a concern.”

Dickies offers a wide selection of high visibility workwear, knits and outerwear in ANSI orange and ANSI yellow with the same great durability, comfort and features customers expect from Dickies workwear. All high visibility products are ANSI certified and include classes 1, 2, 3 and E. The garments feature details such as multi-use pockets, stain-release finishes, moisture-wicking fabric and generous fit. All ANSI-certified clothing products feature the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material.

Dickies new additions include the Long Sleeve Pocket Tee, the ANSI Long Sleeve Tee (class 2), the Mesh Vest (class 2), the Adjustable Mesh Vest (class 2) and the Packable Vest, which is ideal to keep in your car for emergency situations. The packable vest is not classified but does have a 1” reflective stripe and packs into itself. Dickies new additions offer features such as stain-release finish, generous fit and moisture management. Available in sizes S-3XL in ANSI orange and ANSI yellow.

The high and enhanced visibility apparel line will be sold through multiple retail distribution channels.

Dickies and Nascar
Getting up to speed — NASCAR speed — with Dickies workwear.
by: Connie Bastyr

If you haven't checked out the Dickies line of clothing lately, you may not know that the bib overalls business is booming — and covers a wide range of other workwear duds. (That's duds in the friendly cowboy-speak, casual clothing sense of the word.)

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, the 85-year-old company stays close to its roots, yet has built a presence across the planet. I recently visited Williamson-Dickie Mfg. Co. headquarters to tour its quality-control lab and to have a sneak peak at the 2008 clothing lines. Now I'm up to speed on all the company offers and on its history and philosophy. (I'm “up to speed” on NASCAR, as well; more on that later.)

An up-close-and-personal view of the pit area at Texas Motor Speedway before the Dickies 500 NASCAR race.

For starters, I learned that Dickies maintains a strong loyalty to its customers, the working man and woman — and even the working child. As Rick Crosland, general manager of school uniforms for the company, explained, Dickies considers school as the job of the student. And in that vein, it shapes its line of school uniforms (a.k.a. standardized dress) to meet the requirements of schools, while fitting the likes and needs of kids and their parents.

Walking tour
During a tour of the quality control lab, we saw the hands-on testing methods and the high-tech equipment used to monitor fabric performance. I was fascinated that in the science of textile analysis, many characteristics are examined for wash ability, color fastness, wrinkle resistance, fabric weight, crease retention, color accuracy and much more.

Then there was the product line. Besides the basic bibs and carpenter pants that put Dickies on the big Texas map (and practically everywhere else), the selection also includes jackets and jeans, shirts and shorts, even socks and skivvies. Like the expanding women's wear selection, all of the lines' color choices and denim options are ever increasing. The company explores new fabrics and features, yet it ensures that durability and garment styling stay classic.

Tried-and-true products
The clothes are not trendy, but they're still considered fashionable (even for nonworking hours). By sticking with tried-and-true products and affordable pricing, while keeping up with new preferences and possibilities, Dickies respects its core customer and welcomes new fans of the brand.

Speaking of fans, this trip made me a fan — of the Dickies company (could you tell?) and (brace yourself) of NASCAR. As part of this press tour, I sat among some 200,000 NASCAR fans at the Dickies 500 race at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this month. For a person who usually steers clear of large crowds, earsplitting noises and odiferous exhaust fumes, I have to say, I get the appeal. I don't get all the rules, teams, names and numbers, but I know the real-life experience is grand — Texas-grand.
